ALS is a progressive neuron-degenerative disease that attacks motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord while leaving the patient’s ability to see, hear, think and understand intact. Nerve cell death makes it impossible for the brain to control muscles or signal them to move, creating severe muscle atrophy. Nearly 12 people are diagnosed with ALS each day.
