Even The Lobster Was Smiling
By Bob Lee Ride Date September 7 - Afternoon & Evening
Ellsworth to Bar Harbor, ME – continued from this morning.
As I said in this morning’s blog, I was having a hard time ending the RIDE. Having been on the road for 130 days and riding 117 of those days, it will be an adjustment to stop the pedals, just as it was to start them in motion.
As I rode towards the ocean I was reminded how many people have put their “oars” in the water to make this dream a reality.
As I wake each morning I am thankful for all the new friends who have been delivered
into my life because of the RIDE.
I am also more aware of how fragile life is and have been constantly reminded of this by all the memorials I have seen like this one on the road to Bar Harbor.
As I passed these snowmobiles, I realized how long I have been gone. It has been four mounths, but it seems like just yesterday I was in Maine and the tulips and forsythia were in bloom.
A reporter recently asked me about the “smells” I had experienced on the road. This afternoon I added another to the list, that of lobsters and clams boiling.
It was great to smell the salt air again. The last time I did was on June 8, when I left the west coast heading east. Oh how much we have seen together. As I looked at these moored boats, I felt like something was looking at me.
Sure enough!
Then I wondered if the whales were watching as well.
After watching this lobster boat dropping pots…
…I rode into Bar Harbor…
…and joined my cousins, Bill and Linda Lee, at the Shore Path Cottage. As I road down the path, it was obvious they had arrived before I did.
How special it was to have Bill and Linda there. They represent all of our family and friends who have been so supportive of A RIDE FOR 3 REASONS. It was great to celebrate the end of the RIDE with them and to have them document the end of the RIDE. Photography is in the LEE GENES.
After our photo shoot, it was fun to unpack in my room overlooking the Atlantic and then to tour the Bed and Breakfast
This evening we walked to the Bar Harbor Inn and had dinner overlooking the harbor.
It was fun to share stories of the RIDE. Even the lobster was smiling.
What a day it was! Can you believe that on the last day of riding we were able to announce a Challenge Fund? It will match up to $65,000 of new donations between September 9 and November 15! We hope you can all spread the word…
Today was so good I have decided to stay another day to meet some special friends. Stay tuned and THANK YOU for joining the RIDE. I know I am looking forward to some time to relive the RIDE by reviewing the website. Please note you can go to the “archives” and pull up any of the previous blogs by clicking on the month needed. Enjoy! I certainly have!
