Enjoying One More Day
By Bob Lee Ride Date: September 8
Bar Harbor, ME
Bar Harbor is a wonderful destination —but not a convenient location from which to catch a plane. I decided to enjoy one more day, write a few blogs, savor my journey and the beauty of Maine and enjoy dinner with Laurie and Dean.
Tomorrow morning I will take a shuttle at 9:00 am from Bar Harbor to Bangor, a bus from Bangor to Portland, a city bus from the bus station there to the airport and finally a United Airlines flight to Chicago where Anne will greet me. See why I want a day of rest before I head out on that trek? Riding a bike each day is pretty easy.
Do you see the windows on the third floor? That is my room with a view down a path to the ocean.
I am glad I read the Shore Path Cottage literature.
In between phone calls and writing blogs, I did just as instructed. I enjoyed the views,
walked the path and took many deep breaths while enjoying nature.
Last night I had dinner with Bill and Linda who represented all the family and friends who have been so so supportive of me and A RIDE FOR 3 REASONS. Without everyone’s prayers and cares, talents, time, support and encouragement, and donations, the RIDE would not have had the same meaning and impact. Why did I ride? —for three good REASONS!
Although it was a “solo” bike ride, thanks to the website and the media, you were able to “ride along.’ I was grateful to have your company!
Tonight I am going to have dinner with Dean and Laurie Twehues whom I first met in Kettle Falls, Washington and with whom I crossed paths again in Glacier National Park, Cut Banks, MT, Fargo, ND, Defiance, OH, Erie, PA, Pulaski, NY, Geneva on the Lake, NY, and now Bar Harbor ME. Dean and Laurie represent all of the new friends who have entered my life during the Ride. Your presence has added new patches to the tapestry of my life. The three of us shared a memorable evening enjoying a lobster dinner while sharing our stories and impressions of the last few months on the road.
I think the sunset enveloped our feelings of the beauty we had seen and the warmth of the people we had met.
It has been 2 weeks since I finished the RIDE; obviously, I have been having trouble writing this blog. I remember walking down to the shore the morning I left to take one more deep breath.
Maybe I was waiting for some help. Just the other day I received an e-mail with the following quote:
“It is not about the destination that we are trying to get to, it’s the people we meet along the way.”
Yes, life is all about people and relationships. I am appreciative of the inspiration and motivation, strength and encouragement that I have received throughout my life. Thanks for being a part of it!!!
Periodically I will be updating the site and recapping the RIDE, so please keep visiting. If you want to go on a southern journey, download and enjoy these documents with pictures and stories of my 2001 ride across the southern tier of the country from California to Florida.

Until December 1, my main focus will be to maximize our efforts to find up to $65,000 in new donations to take advantage of the very generous matching fund announced in the blog posted on September 9 entitled The $65,000 Challenge Returns. Please share this site with as many friends, family, and work associates as possible to spread the word. Remember, over 1,500 Americans die each day of cancer; over 35,000 individuals are suffering from ALS; and we need to tell more people of the wonderful work of Hospice. 100% of all donations will support these 3 charities.

Thanks for the ride Bob! But most of all, thanks for the daily reminder of what life is really all about! The ride is over but the journey continues.
Welcome home, John
