Until Niagara Falls
By Bob Lee Ride Date: August 22
Dunkirk, NY to Niagara Falls, Ontario
As I RIDE I enjoy good messages and this billboard had a good message about our land of opportunity —if one has ambition.
Well, I was headed in the direction of Harvard, which was ambitious for me. Now that I have less than a 1,000 miles left to travel I am daydreaming about
lighthouses and open water. I just couldn’t smell the salt air.
I thought I might not be ambitious enough when I saw these mums for sale. What happened to summer? Can I beat fall home?
I took this picture of a roadside memorial. I am not sure you can read the sign in the background. It says, “Your best stop of the day.” This will certainly give me something to think about as I pedal along…
If we need more to think about – think about this statement.
I think this repairman put off renewing his registration.
This man wasn’t going to put off redeeming his cans for cash. He brought in cans to recycle. It is good to see states put policies in place to encourage recycling and less littering.
When I rode into south Buffalo five ladies with posters, balloons and energy bars greeted me. For a number of years I worked with Jim Govola who lives in the area. Jim was off selling window coverings, but how special it was to have his mother, two sisters and three nieces meet me
Jim’s mom even called the paper to get some publicity. Their enthusiasm will give me pedal power to finish the ride. I did stop by the Buffalo News on the way out of town. This article next morning paper.
The following pictures were taken as I crossed the Peace Bridge into Canada and as I rode east to Niagara Falls.
I was surprised to see these two Canadian Geese still at home. I thought they had all gone south for the summer or in many case had taken up permanent residency in the states. Is it immigration or migration that we are worried about?
It has been many years since I was at Niagara Falls. Even though it was not a pretty day, I was pretty impressed. It might be because I rode along the river for about 25 miles and could see the power building. It might be because I was on a bike seat and could hear the roar and feel the spray. I hope these pictures help you feel the impact of the falls.
Yes, like the falls our lives need impact. The following is a quote from Miles Levin who died of cancer on August 19th.
"Dying is not what scares me; it's dying having had no impact. I know a lot of eyes are watching me suffer; and -- win or lose -- this is my time for impact."
Please read Miles’ story and see the impact he has had.

Geese fly south in the winter when it's cold and fly back home in the summer when it's hot. Thanks for the interesting read and I am glad you had a good trip.

Bob,
You're looking great at the falls.
I saw a picture of Jon Blais attached to a bike at the Louisville Ironman. The URL for the Ironman site and Jon's photo is attached to my email.
The Louisville Ironman is tomorrow and our neighbor and good friend, Dirk Beveridge is participating.
