Surrounded By The CIA
By Bob Lee Ride Date: August 18
2007 Geneva-On=The-Lake, OH to Erie, PA – 57 Miles
Throughout the morning, my mind was elsewhere. Not on the bike but at home thinking of a YARD SALE For Kids and by Kids.
This flyer, produced by Zach Hennenfent, was all over town. What a fabulous idea to have kids clean out their closets, garages, and basements in order to make their “extras” available for charity. We are never too young to be taught the joy of giving.
Over 40 families provided toys and bake goods for the Saturday sale at our daughter Laura’s home. Between the sales of bake goods, a pair of Cub’s tickets and lots of toys these young entrepreneurs made $1,500, which will be donated, to A RIDE FOR 3 REASONS.
Thank you! Thank you one and all!
As you can tell by the waves on Lake Erie, the wind was blowing and unfortunately, overnight it shifted from west to east.
It was hard pedaling and when I saw this cheap gas, I decided to fill up. Unfortunately, they would not take my credit card. I think this shows our economy runs on credit.
Well this man must have had cash since he had gas for his mower. I stopped to take a picture of this zero-turning-radius mower since I thought it might be good for Cub Cadet to become a sponsor.
Within a minute of snapping the picture the driver, Bill Hite, and I established we had known of one another when we worked for International Harvester in Ohio in the early 70’s. Small world!
In case I missed this sign...
…this farmer wanted to be sure I knew I had left Ohio.
I hurried along to have a quick visit with a good high school friend of Laura’s. It was wonderful to see Gail and Eric Root and their 3 boys Bo, Charlie and Tyler in their beautiful home outside of Erie.
Since it was Saturday night, I thought there might be a wedding I could photograph. Sure enough…
After taking the wedding picture I headed out to see the fair on the streets of Erie. For a minute I thought I was in trouble since I was surrounded by people in CIA tee shirts. They soon left me alone since I was too old and not very creative. In this case, CIA stands for Creativity In Action and I stopped to watch their robots in action. NASA is one of the sponsors of the FIRST Robotic Competition. Here our dollars are well spent.

Hi Bob: Glad to have you back in the state of PA. Hopefully you recall your ride through Lancaster County. Just like you I took a picture of the "Welcome" sign that greets visitors to our great state while doing my cross country ride. Thanks for helping bring back some good memories.
