5 Years In the Making
This journey began over 5 years ago and has been gaining momentum ever since. While receiving an award for the 2001 RIDE at a National Hospice convention, I heard about a man who was planning to ride the perimeter of the country at age 65 for a local Hospice chapter. The seed was planted. Hopefully this 2007 RIDE will help plant seeds to grow dreams and HOPE for many others.
For the duration of the RIDE I will be writing journal entries to share the journey- past, present and future.
First and foremost, I would like to express our GRATITUDE to each and every one of you who has “joined the RIDE.” Over the next few months I will covey our appreciation to the many individuals, organizations and corporations who have offered support and encouragement.. Without your confidence and commitment, this would just be “one long ride.” With your backing, the RIDE is “purpose - full” and “passion -driven.” The RIDE is about people. It is about families suffering with ALS and Cancer. It is about helping to find cures and providing HOPE. It is about making the best of the rest of our lives. It is about sharing the wonderful works of Hospice so that people may have choices about their end of life care ---pain free and surrounded by loved ones.
Over the next 5 to 6 months we will travel together and see the beauty of our country and its people. Tune in any time, chime in any time, ask questions and share your stories; be as active or as passive a “rider” as you would like.
Our current format is set for me to blog on a regular basis and share the day’s adventures, thoughts, feelings, and pictures.
There is a column for those of you who would like to share “comments.” We welcome your input.
There will be another column which will develop into the “heart and soul” of the RIDE; we will call it “PEDAL POWER.” You are invited to share personal stories of your own or others concerning ALS, Cancer or Hospice. It is because of these life stories that we ride, donate, share and care. The RIDE is about people - the people who give us “pedal power;” in exchange we offer HOPE and support. By hearing their stories we can focus our prayers and energy to help them and others.
Thank you for joining the RIDE…

Bob:
Glad to read you successfully finished your trip and raised $.3. Good job!
We met you as my wife and I along with you checked into a motel in Defiance, OH at the same time. Then we chatted again at breakfast the following AM.
I too ride almost daily, but at 77 1/2 my trips range from 2-4 miles each and help keep my ole bod movin'.
Congrats!

The bride and groom on the carriage are friends of mine- I was the matron of honor in the wedding, and was at the reception getting things set up as they cruised around on the carriage. Just wanted to say "Way to go" on your RIDE, as I have had more experience with Hospice in the last 7 years than I care to admit! Great people doing great things, but you only see them when it is time for a loved one to pass.... Keep the faith! Thanks for all you are doing! Enjoy your time here in the upper mid-west!

Bob
A relative of our son-in-laws forwarded an email they had received regarding your ride. Little did they know we were classmates at DePauw.
We wish you the best of luck in finishing your ride and will definitely make a contribution.

I hope each and everyone of you go on the website and follow Bob on his adventures. Rich and I enjoyed sitting down at the end of a hard day and reading and seeing what Bob had done that day. His beautiful pictures just took us away from the day that we just had and put us at ease. The best part was knowing that the next day would bring new pics and new adventures. Rich and I enjoyed reading about the new people Bob had met on his journey. Have fun and enjoy looking for "Where's BOB?"
